Adventure
Ziplining in Kauai: Koloa Zipline & Beyond
By Rick Kennerknecht · Updated October 2026
Ziplining is one of Kauai's biggest adrenaline draws, sending you flying over valleys, streams, and old plantation land on cables strung between platforms. Three operators run courses on the island: Koloa Zipline on the south shore, Kauai Backcountry Adventures, and Outfitters Kauai on Kipu Ranch. Each suits slightly different thrill levels and ages.
Koloa Zipline
Koloa Zipline near Poipu features eight lines plus a flying harness that lets you soar face-down like a superhero. It crosses the Waita Reservoir area and is a strong pick if you want variety and speed. Tours run about three to four hours.
Other zipline options
Kauai Backcountry Adventures runs a zipline course on its plantation land near Lihue, and Outfitters Kauai runs one on Kipu Ranch south of Lihue with the longest single line on the island. Each has a different mix of length, height, and add-ons, so compare before you book.
Requirements and safety
Weight limits run about 60 to 280 pounds depending on the operator, and minimum ages are often 7 to 12. Guides handle all the gear and clip-ins, and the tours have strong safety records. Closed-toe shoes are required, and you should be able to walk short trails between platforms.
Cost and booking
Expect about $150 to $200 per person. Morning tours beat the afternoon heat and clouds, and booking ahead is essential in summer. Wear athletic clothes, bring water, and secure or leave behind loose items. Phones are tricky to use mid-line unless strapped down.
Is it right for you?
Ziplining suits anyone comfortable with heights who wants a burst of adrenaline and big views. It is not strenuous, so it works for a wide range of fitness levels, but nervous first-timers should start with a shorter course before tackling the longest lines.
