A 7-Day Kauai Honeymoon Itinerary

By · Updated October 2026

Kauai suits a honeymoon well. It is lush and dramatic, and it is quieter and less developed than Oahu and Maui. This itinerary leans into romance: a luxury clifftop resort on the north shore, a sunset Na Pali cruise, a couples spa afternoon, and unhurried mornings. It is a splurge week, running roughly $9,000 to $13,000 for two including flights, a luxury resort, fine dining, and a few signature experiences, but it can flex down with a shorter luxury stretch.

Hurricane Lowell recovery (as of October 21, 2026): Haena State Park reopened October 15 (reservations required), but Kokee and Waimea Canyon state parks, most other Kauai state parks, the Kalalau Trail past mile 2, all state camping, and Secret Falls remain closed, and Port Allen's small boat harbor is only partly open. See our what's open on Kauai page, and check DLNR state parks, openkauai.org, and your tour operator before you go.

Days 1 to 2: Settle into Poipu

Land at Lihue and drive to Poipu, the sunniest corner of the island. Check into Koa Kea or the Grand Hyatt Kauai (the Hyatt's lagoon and one pool are limited during storm repairs). The Beach House is closed until further notice after Hurricane Lowell, so for a first-night sunset dinner book Tidepools or Merriman's. Day 2, sleep in, share a poolside cabana, and book a couples massage at the Anara Spa. Keep it slow. You are on island time now.

Day 3: Na Pali sunset cruise

Drive to Port Allen for a late-afternoon Na Pali Coast sunset catamaran (about $230 to $265 per person), which usually includes dinner and drinks, and often dolphins along the green cliffs. From December to April you may spot humpback whales. Boats are on reduced schedules after the storm, so confirm your sailing when you book. For many couples it is the best evening of the trip.

Day 4: Move north to Princeville

Transfer to the north shore and check into 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, on the bluff above Hanalei Bay, or the Westin Princeville, on the Princeville bluffs facing the open ocean. Break the drive with a stop in Kapaa for a relaxed lunch. Spend the evening watching the sun drop from your lanai with a bottle of sparkling wine.

Days 5 to 6: North shore days

Explore Hanalei town, paddle the calm bay, and stop at the Hanalei Valley Lookout. For a short hike together, book a Go Haena reservation and take the shuttle from Waipa. Self-parking is unavailable, so book the shuttle, and the trail is open as far as Hanakapiai Beach. Anini is the easier snorkel for now. Splurge on dinner at Bar Acuda and a quiet beach picnic. Mention your honeymoon when booking. Many resorts add wine, spa credits, or a room upgrade.

Day 7: Farewell to the island

Enjoy a final slow breakfast and one last beach walk before the roughly one-hour drive back to Lihue. For a big finale the day before, add a doors-off helicopter flight over the waterfalls and Kalalau Valley. It is expensive, and it is the view of Kauai you will both remember.
