Jurassic Park Filming Locations on Kauai

By · Updated October 2026

Kauai's lush scenery has made it Hollywood's favorite tropical backdrop, standing in for dinosaur islands, jungle adventures, and pirate coves in more than 70 films. Jurassic Park is the most famous, and several of its locations can be visited, some easily, some only by helicopter, boat, or guided tour. Here is how to walk (or fly) through movie history.

Jurassic Falls (Manawaiopuna Falls)

The waterfall the helicopter flies past in Jurassic Park is Manawaiopuna Falls, on private land in the Hanapepe Valley. The only way to see it up close is a helicopter tour that lands at its base, which Island Helicopters runs. From the air you also see the sweeping green valleys used throughout the film.

Kipu Ranch and the Huleia Valley

Much of the film's ground-level jungle was shot on Kipu Ranch south of Lihue, which you can explore on an ATV or kayak tour. The Huleia River and National Wildlife Refuge here also appeared in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Guides point out exact scene locations as you go.

Na Pali Coast and other films

The fluted Na Pali cliffs opened Jurassic Park and appear in King Kong, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and more. See them by catamaran from Port Allen (on reduced schedules as of October 2026) or by helicopter. Allerton Garden in Poipu is where Dr. Grant and the kids find dinosaur eggs among the Moreton Bay fig roots; visit by reserved tour from the Lawai visitor center, which reopened October 19.

Easy vs. splurge options

On a budget, tour Allerton Garden, admire the Na Pali cliffs from a boat, and drive the scenic valleys yourself. For the full experience, a doors-off helicopter flight over Jurassic Falls and the Kalalau Valley runs about $370 to $500 per person, and the Jurassic Falls landing tour from Island Helicopters starts around $400.

Plan a film-themed day

Combine an Allerton Garden tour with a Na Pali boat trip, or pair a Kipu Ranch ATV ride with a helicopter flight for the deepest dive. Rewatch the movies before your trip. Recognizing the scenery in person is the whole fun.
